BlackBerry applications

RIM plans to launch the application storefront in March 2009 and BlackBerry application developers can begin submitting their applications and content for inclusion in the storefront in December 2008. The storefront will allow developers to set their own prices for applications and developers will retain 80 percent of the revenue generated from their applications. RIM’s portfolio of award-winning products, services and embedded technologies are used by thousands of organizations around the world and include the BlackBerry wireless platform, the RIM Wireless Handheld(TM) product line, software development tools, radio-modems and software/hardware licensing agreements. For more information, visit www.rim.com or www.blackberry.com . RIM provides such products and services on an “AS IS” basis with no express or implied conditions, endorsements, guarantees, representations or warranties of any kind, and assumes no liability whatsoever with respect to them.

RIM has innovated handheld devices from text pagers to a new wireless devices which includes several features that can benefit customers from large enterprises, business travelers, to home users. These wireless platforms can greatly improve accessibility and usability to people who are deaf and hard of hearing. RIM said that it expects about 1,000 applications to be available in the store almost immediately. RIM listed as among the titles it expects to see posted this week titles ranging from business applications from Salesforce.com, business news from Bloomberg, and general interest news from the New York Times to entertainment from the likes of MTV. RIM has been attempting to work out deals with developers outside of simple app sales, to pull in money, two separate sources have told me. These potentially include RIM taking a cut of ad revenues from apps that run on the BlackBerry and a cut of transactions made within apps themselves.

RIM realized that what they were lacking with the BlackBerry devices was a single portal where users could go to get all their apps. They were also lacking a ton of apps too! RIM provides such products and services on an ?AS IS?
